The New York State vehicle safety inspection program helps make sure every vehicle registered in this state meets the minimum standards for safe operation on public streets and highways. In addition, most vehicles are subject to an emissions inspection to help reduce air pollution.

A properly maintained vehicle is safer, performs better, uses fuel more efficiently and saves the owner money. You can help by doing your own equipment safety checks between annual inspections, and by following a program of regular vehicle maintenance as recommended by the manufacturer.

  • Do I need an appointment for an inspection?

You do not need an appointment for a NY State Inspection. Simply come to the shop with your vehicle and let someone in the office know that you’re here for an inspection.  If you’d like to call us before visiting our shop, we can give you an idea how long the wait time will be (if any).

We begin inspections at 8:30 am and the last inspection is 5:30 pm.

  • What do you check for during inspections?

    We check the following:

Brakes, Steering, Front End, Suspension, Chassis, Frame and Wheel Fasteners, Tires, Lights (Head and Tail lamps, Signals, etc.), Windshield, Wiper Blades, Seat Belts, Emergency Brake, Horn, Mirrors, etc.

  • My vehicle has the check engine light on, will it pass inspection?

If you’re check engine light is on, it will not pass the NY Inspections. When the inspection is performed, the computer is connected to your vehicle via the OBDII (On-Board Diagnostics) connector. This test will read and detect any emission-related issue with your vehicle.
